Research-based collaboration:
A toolkit for teaching and learning

This toolkit seeks to facilitate the development of collaborations with non-university partners in research-based teaching projects. It provides practical guidance, resources and examples for educators in social science university courses, whereby we draw particularly from experiences in urban research. Its target audience is educators who want to implement collaborative and innovative teaching that benefits learners, supports vulnerable non-university partners in the city and fosters interdisciplinary approaches to address worldly challenges.

The present toolkit was developed in the project KoLab: Kollaborative Lehrforschung in der Stadt, funded by the 2022 open_innovation Teaching Fund (ULF) of the University of Zurich (UZH) – an initiative supporting the implementation of teaching innovations in the UZH curriculum. It builds on the reflections of all participants from the collaboration, but ultimately is written in our voice.
